Pasimodo
Pasimodo is a program package for the computer simulation of disperse media and different kinds of continua. The software is based on meshless particle methods. It is well suited for being used as a research platform due to its modular basic concept. Virtually any new particle based simulation approach can be implemented and linked to the program as a plug-in. Such new program modules, which do not require sophisticated programming, can be combined with any existing approaches. By this means the software was already extended by Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), a continuum mechanics model. SPH allows for flow simulations of liquids and gases. Moreover, it can be applied to the investigation of visco-elastic-plastic solids, such as metals.
Another field of application of Pasimodo is the simulation of granular media. The software is thus attractive for a number of other research disciplines beyond mechanical engineering as a valuable simulation tool. It is e.g. applied in computational architecture for the simulation of particle based installations, so called aggregates. Another application of Pasimodo is the investigation of the grain flow in seeders or harvesters in agricultural engineering.
Pasimodo is being developed and applied at the Institute of Engineering and Computational Mechanics by a versatile team. Besides that, the software has been successfully used in a number of industrial cooperations.
